Research has been done at UC Davis where they added pathogens as such as E. Coli, salmonella, camphylobacter and listeria to raw milk and noted that these pathogens could not survive in it. On the other hand, when you add these pathogens to pasteurized milk, they will proliferate. In other words, the pasteurized milk has no "immune system". The lactic acid, lactic acid bacteria, enzymes, lactoperoxidase and lactoferrin in raw milk are all beneficial. In fact, the FDA just approved lactoferrin as a spray to control pathogens in slaughterhouses because antibiotics and antiseptics are not working. Lactoferrin in milk is safe and effective in fighting pathogens.
It is another GREAT reason to drink raw milk, do not you think?

Yes, but it's a bit difficult to get hold on. And I suppose there was some reason for the pasteurization in the first place? But nature's own ways of preserving and disinfecting are really quite astounding!

Hi Ilva! As far as I know pasteurization started because of the poor sanitary conditions of the milk farm---but that was in the LATE 1800! In now days, with the technology and sanitary regulations in the milk farms---there is -no need- to continue doing this. Anyhow, I believe in freedom and giving people choices. If they want to drink raw milk: let them drink raw milk!!! Do not you think!

Freedom being a key word here...are we still free in America? If the government says I can buy beer and cigarettes (both of which have the potential to kill me)but I'm not allowed to choose to buy raw milk for my consumption, there's a definite infringement upon my freedom. Think about it.

While I am a raw milk fan in principle. This seems like pure misinformation to me. How do you explain the listeria and ecoli outbreaks from raw milk that do in fact occur including in my home state of VT this year? Promote raw milk but also promote safe, uniform standards.
Also citing the study might lend a bit more credibility to your incredible claims.

If Listeria and E.Coli exists in raw milk and is then ingested early on, before it's broken down by the milks immune system, suddenly that bacteria is in your body.
